Aneesa Julmice, is a 22-year-old painter from the United States. Manifesting her success really early, she practised by interviewing herself under the shower at 11 years old.

Today, she still paints and studies interactive media in New York. Having Haitian roots, growing up in Georgia, and now living in the Big Apple—identity plays a big role in the young painter’s life. Through her art, she likes to point out and discuss identity, as well as political issues, feminism, and the internet as the parallel universe in which we move on a daily basis.

Much of her work focuses on parasocial relationships, the perception of brown and black women on the internet—and how cruel it is. In large oil paintings, she deals with those topics by creating colourful, surreal compositions, often featuring naked women. For Aneesa, “painting a nude is doing the opposite of sexualizing”.
