Emes April is a 26 years old animator and filmmaker from Malang, Indonesia. Our collective met him during a trip there and was impressed by his ambitions. His short-movies are colourful and present his own world in a pop-artsy way, where the digital and realistic worlds are melting together. Emes’s spacy movies are digitally constructed thereby taking advantage of the possibility to break free of any physical rules.Emes grew up in a small village in Indonesia. His father, a sound-engineer, encouraged him and his brother to become involved in their own band thus probably leading to Emes having his first contact with this form of absolute creativity.Initially, his parents had aspired for him to become a doctor, given that opportunities for financial security are rare in Indonesia. Moreover, it is common that as parents are getting older and enter retirement, the responsibility to care for the elderly falls upon the children.
